Statement - Del Green

Dear Club,

Last night at the rugby club meeting I am pleased to announce that I have been asked to become the club’s new president this is a great honour for me and my family, I went to bed last night with a massive smile on my face. It was still there in the morning, Gill said to me does this make me your first lady, I said that depends?

I would like to thank Bodger for his 15 years’ service as president of the club he has been a great figurehead and inspiration to all the players and myself, not only at the club but Bodger also taught me at school, along with another hero of mine Rodger Smoldon both men have been a great role model in my life.

My main goals for my term in office is to help organise the club’s centenary celebration, to reinforce the RFU respect policy and to be a father figure. If anybody ever has any problems, you can always come and talk to me my door is always open. My main aim is to encourage a volunteer ethos within the club. Being a volunteer should not be onerous or time-consuming being a volunteer should be giving something back with a smile knowing you have helped the club, without volunteers there is no club.

I’d like to thank Pete Benson, and all involved with our future, the mini and juniors. To whom I will give my full support. This has been the senior teams back bone for many years, and as a club this bucks the trend. Once green, always green.

Kidderminster is our first home game of the season I would like to make this day a special one for myself and Bodger, watch this space,

My first duty as president was a sad one, When I represented the club by attending Roger Finch’s funeral on Thursday.

Roger was a great supporter of the rugby club you could see him upstairs with his mother June watching every 1st team and women’s games. He would also attend Walmley cricket club and support with great gusto. Roger and June were great lovers of sport, the club and me would like to offer any support to June and sincerely hope that she continues to come and support the club.

I would once again like to thank everybody who has put me forward for this honourable position at the club. And let’s have a great, positive season. And support our talented players, coaching and management staff.

Yours gratefully
Del Green
