Sad Passing of Don Robbins

It is with great sadness I have to inform you of the passing of Ex SCRFC and Warwickshire RFU President Don Robbins. Don was a member for many years and a pivotal figure in the club’s development. Don joined the club as a player and represented the First XV and other teams as he advanced in age, passing on his experience. Don was a huge man physically most notably his shovel like hands but more than that he has a huge personality, kind and generous.

It is hard to write how much Don did for the club. When I was a boy (many moons ago) whenever I was at the club he was there, usually with Roger Smoldon. Don did everything and was on every Committee, a true club man. He did everything from line the pitches to help manage the building and move of the club to its “new” home on Walmley Rd. He was honored to become President of the Club and role he served with distinction.

In later years Don served Warwickshire RFU with equal commitment and success, serving on numerous committee’s including the Competitions Committee and the Disciplinary Committee. Don was again made president of the organisation as a mark of respect for his commitment.

Don was the father to Graham Robbins the only Sutton RFC player to represent England at Full International level and achievement of which he was rightly immensely proud.

We will be holding a minutes silence at the next home First XV Fixture (hopefully Newport) and will pass on the funeral details to anyone that would like to attend and pay their respects to Don.

RIP Don from everyone and SCRFC

Geoff Fletcher
Chair SCRFC
