Some great team tries and good defence.

Sutton Threes welcomed Luctonians to Walmley Road for a league game for a fixture that is notoriously hard to gain anything from. However today was different as Sutton recorded a resounding 40-12 victory finishing the game very strongly pulling away from Luctonians in the last 10 minutes, running in several long distance tries in the process.
But Sutton being Sutton the first score of the game went to the opposition as they took advantage of a somewhat generous penalty award to score in the corner from a catch and drive at the lineout. Sutton’s risposte was instant as the forwards began to punch holes in the physically bigger but ponderous away side. Ed Moore continued his good form this season by going on a barnstorming run bouncing black and shite shirts aside in a surge to the line, where from the ball set back Chris Duckworth picked up to plunge over for the equalising score and also goalling the conversion. Sutton dominated the rest of the half but bombed several chances to add to the score and really put the game to bed but were guilty of overplaying and making basic errors in communication. The one chance they did convert was a simple pick up from the base of the scrum by Jonah Falconer who had a fine man of the match performance. With the conversion successful from Duckworth it meant a 14-5 score at oranges!
The second half kicked off with the usual outcome ie a dropped ball from a restart!!! After a dodgy 10 minutes whilst Sutton pondered on the meaning of life the men and boys in green sprung into life as Rhys Jones and Danny Price grabbed the game by the scruff of the neck laying on a second try for Duckworth although there may have been a double movement!! 19-12 as the conversion was pushed wide. The wobbling carried on as Luctonians attempted to apply some pressure succeeding only sporadically as Sutton got their mojo back and turned on the style and pace to record 3 more converted tries in the final quarter.
Firstly Josh Pugh gathered the ball on half way after Scott Toy had performed heroics to turn over the ball against half of their pack before setting Pugh on his way. For once he used his pace and guile to go around the opposition instead of attempting to go through and over it, a pretty futile task really as he’s only 5 feet 5 and 10 stone soaking wet.
Even better was to come as Jonah Falconer broke from deep inside his own half, outstripping the Luctonian’s defence, before drawing the last man and sending the supporting Luis Piovesana over to touch down between the posts.
Before the final try came Danny Price’s champagne moment as his twinkling, dancing feet a la Barry John, all those years go ,left 2 men on their backsides, 2 more grasping thin air, then he dropped the ball!!! After all this is third team rugby!! Making amends though, Price sent Duckworth dancing up the touchline ,with a well timed pass , to record his hat trick try, touching down again under the sticks and a final score of Sutton 40 Luctonians 12.
A good game played in a good spirit.
Finally congratulations to Joe for playing all of 20 minutes and to captain Steve Marshall for a truly execrable kick straight to the opposition winger who proceeded to get close to scoring a try in the corner!!
Finally, finally a warm welcome back to Mark Letman after a long absence, who despite an undeniable aura of rust around him had a good game! Matt Morgan had another steady game as did Alex Shaw and everyone who made their club debuts and those that had to play out of position for reasons best left unsaid!!!!!
