A convincing victory.

Sutton made the short trip to long standing rivals Lichfield RUFC and strolled away with a convincing victory based on a fine performance of free flowing rugby registering 12 tries in the process. After 2 frustrating performances recently, it was perhaps unfortunate for Lichfield that they were on the receiving of that frustration. As usual, Lichfield were genial hosts with a friendly welcome and a good spirit on the pitch.
Within 2 minutes Sutton had scored their first try through McEvoy, who took a minute longer than he normally does to score the first try at Lichfield! This set the pattern as Sutton pretty much ran the ball from everywhere, the evidence being that the only forward to score was fleet-footed veteran prop Dave “Yorkie” Smith and even he ran in from 20+CMs!!!
Lichfield rarely pressed the visitors but did score a try through their forward play as they ran through a few phases, helped by a couple of Sutton indiscretions, to finally score an unconverted try and a 33-5 scoreline at half time.
The second half continued in the same manner as everyone in green who received the ball ran with it and even passed it occasionally to another green shirt. An honourable mention must go to the forwards, just in case the backs get a little above themselves ,who also had a field day with ball in hand-the aforementioned Dave Smith but also Scott Toy, skipper Steve Marshall, Ian Wilson , the rampaging Ed Moore! EU representative Armand Ro.
As for the tries Chris Duckworth with 4 and 6 conversions for a personal haul of 32 points, Mark McEvoy 3, Dave Smith1, Josh Pugh1 (somewhat unlucky to have 2 tries chalked off thus denying the team the rare occurrence of three plyers scoring hat tricks of tries!) Callum Heeney 1, Matt Morgan(who had a fine game) 1 and finally and I mean finally Amir Nasari 1, should’ve been 2 but took the wrong option and ended up presenting Duckworth with his third try instead of scoring his second!!!
Credit must go to Lichfield for battling away all afternoon and playing hard for the entire 80 minutes.
That’s it folks!!!
