A Good Run Out

Summer made a belated return on Saturday, at least in Tamworth anyway, as Sutton 3s ventured over for a pre-season friendly at Wiggington. A friendly in name as it turned out be full of more flash points than the lightning reportedly striking around the West Midlands. With Ed Moore, Tom Foulsham and Lewis Snowden leading the way lightning struck repeatedly during the game of 4 20 minute quarters.
Indeed Sutton started in fine fashion as they found the Tamworth 15 asleep in their own 22 providing an easy try for the aforesaid Snowden and a 5 point lead. Tamworth woke up played to their strengths and scored a similar try as the dozy away defence waved an opponent tjrough untouched to the tryline. A successful conversion and Tamworth lead 7-5 which was the way it stayed for a considerable time as Sutton rather misguidedly tried to play Tamworth at their own game, as they got drawn into a forward battle.
Finally the penny dropped and the greater speed and skill of the Sutton backs took over as tackling improved the ball was played out faster and some fine tries were recorded in the plus column.
Discipline didn’t improve however, until skipper Steve “Lion King “ Marshall read the riot act and both teams tried to finish the game with both teams intact, a feat which couldn’t be completed!!!!!
Sutton ran riot in the last two quarters running in some sparkling tries including debut tries for Callum Heeney and TJ.
Man of the match Dean Ginn scored one in addition to 4 from Snowden 2 from Mark McEvoy making 9 tries in total 4 of which were converted, one by McEvoy and 3 by Chris Duckworth who had a quiet game apart from one thunderous tackle towards the end, indeed it could be said he was outshone by Duckworth senior for two great takes, a dummy and seeing off 4 loose heads during the course of the game!!!!!!!!
All in all the score flattered the away team a little who ran out comfortable winners but with work left to do especially support play and team discipline.
