Outstanding performance by the Colts at the RSG on Sunday 3rd Dec as they stormed to an emphatic 49-19 win over a good Old Halesonians side.

There was an early warning for the home side as Old Hales struck the first blow when Dan Smith touched down and Dan Corcoran converted to give the visitors a 7-0 lead. However, cheered on by a vociferous home crowd Sutton quickly assumed the ascendency with the forwards driving hard and the backs looking menacing and by half time had scored 3 quality tries through Sam Grimshaw (2) and captain Harry Moxon all of which were converted by fly half Harry Wheelwright. Old Hales scored an unconverted try though Ben Yarnall just before the break to leave the score at the interval 21-12 for the boys in green.

The 2nd half followed much the same pattern as the first with Sutton playing some great rugby and being rewarded with 4 more tries courtesy of fleet-footed 16 year old outside centre Sam Grimshaw who added a further two tries to his 1st half brace, flanker Matt Price with a brilliant individual piece of play and hardworking No 8 James Bishop, who picked up from the back of a scrum and drove over; all 4 tries were converted by the impressive Harry Wheelwright who turned in an immaculate performance from the kicking tee. The only response from the visitors in the 2nd period was an unconverted consolation try by Luke Willetts.

Brilliant performance by the Colts, who put on a great show under the coaching guidance of Dan Lockley and Sandy O’Hare’s,. Great to see such enthusiastic support from everyone particularly the senior players and from the Sutton Womem squad, whose game at Birmingham Exiles was sadly postponed. Good luck to Old Hales, thanks for the game and we wish you well for the rest of the season.
