Stafford Colts 0pts v Sutton Colts 50pts

North Midlands Colts League
With no senior games for the men or women scheduled for Sutton Coldfield Rugby Club last weekend it was the turn of the very successful Sutton Colts to step centre stage and take the spotlight as they travelled into Staffordshire to face a Stafford Colts side, who were overwhelmed by the Sutton onslaught in a killer 50-0 defeat.

The day did not start well for the normally well supported Sutton Colts side when late cry-offs reduced the travelling team to a bare 15 players with no subs but guided by coaches Joe Gavin, Sutton's Head Coach, Sandy O'Hare Assistant Head Coach and Gregg Henderson, 1st XV forwards coach, supported by super physio Rachel Gillan, the team produced a superb display denying the advantage their lack of substitutes gave to their opponents to produce a powerful performance in which they scored a total of 8 tries, 4 in each half with 4 conversions including a penalty try to record a resounding victory.

The Sutton try fest started with a penalty try after 7 minutes of play to confirm the Sutton superiority and continued at a steady pace throughout the first half with tries by Warwick Pallister on 24 minutes followed by Ben Edwards after 29 minutes and on 37 minutes Ben McElhannan scored the bonus point fourth try, converted by Ben Edwards to give Sutton an impressive 24-0 lead at the break.

At the start of the second half Sutton carried on in much the same vein when just one minute into the second period Ryan Potter crossed for the opening try converted by Paul O'Toole extending their lead to 31-0, then on 50 minutes Syakir Saiful scored converted by Ben Edwards followed by a try for Adam Finch and finally Harry White capped a fine performance with a final try converted by Paul O'Toole on 74 minutes to reach the magical 50 mark and complete a remarkable and commendable victory for the Sutton side.
