Birmingham and Solihull U16’s 10 Sutton Coldfield U16’s 38
For the second consecutive week Sutton U16’s travelled away to local rivals and completely dominated proceedings. In blustery conditions it took both sides the first quarter of the game to settle down and Sutton were the first to create a period of sustained pressure. In the 10th minute after the forwards dominated at a series of rucks, a charge down and drive over from flanker George Shepherd at the next scrum opened the scoring for the Greens. Five minutes later centre Zac Tyler was amongst a number chasing out of defence to provide the overlap before scoring left of the posts. Just before half time Sutton confirmed their dominance with a third well taken try this time from centre Jack Sanders after some excellent forward preparation from Ben Macdonald, Brandon Cooper and Ed Scase. A third conversion from Ollie Chitnis gave Sutton a 21-0 half-time advantage.
The black shirts of the hosts came out for the second half in a more positive frame of mind and in the first minute took advantage of some slack defending to score in the corner. For the next 20 minutes the Sutton pack continued to dominate and create opportunities but occasional handing errors prevented further points being added. With ten minutes to go Sutton found an extra gear and following a break out of defence, a kick over the top and chase from Myles Bean allowed Sanders to bundle over for his second try. Three minutes later Bean used the same technique but this time was able to touch down his own kick to score in the right corner. Birmingham and Solihull then scored an unconverted try from a rare attack in the Sutton half before Tyler was on hand for the second time to score under the posts after a scything run from skipper Nobby Hawkins. Chitnis completed the scoring with another conversion before the referee’s whistle brought things to a close and a convincing 38-10 victory for Sutton.
