Sutts win by the odd score in three

Storm Desmond tried it's best to spoil this game between two of the best teams in the Midlands, but to no avail.
From the first whistle to the last this contest was 'fought' with passion, guile and a lot of guts. Sutton were under pressure straight away but strong play from the pack drove the opposition back to the half way line. A series of phases ended with the ball being hoofed forward reversing the pressure with an Old Covs line-out inside their own 22.
Heavy hits from both sides and quick ball play made for a brilliant spectacle, resiliant defensive work meant neither try-line was troubled until the 26th minute of the game. Another strong drive from the Sutton pack, up the left side saw them inside the OC's 22 a quick ball to the backs pushed the defence back to the line, and from the back of the ruck the ball was picked up and driven over in the corner from a yard out, 5-0 at the break.
A better start to the second half saw Sutton take the initiative with OC's defence standing strong again and again, 15 minutes in Old Covs made their way up the field, good interplay saw the ball spin out to the wing 22 metres out, a strong run and weak tackles resulted in the equalising score, 5-5 with 15 minutes left.
Straight away Sutton pushed forward with some strong play making their way toward the visitors 22, but were penalised for holding on in the tackle and the ball change hands again.
With ten minutes left, Sutton's persistence paid off when they crossed the line for the second time just right of the posts, the score 12-5. With a nail-biting final 10 minutes in store, passions bubbled over and tempers began to flare, the result, two yellow cards (one for each team) with three minutes left. Both teams played out the last moments of the game, a 14 man scrum and a line out on Sutton's 22, the last two plays.
