Awayday for the U15's

Sutton u15s visited Vipers RFC in Leicester for the first meeting between the two clubs with a squad strengthened by the return of a few players from absence and injury.
Sutton fell behind early on when Vipers intercepted a flat pass on the half way line and ran in a try under the posts that was successfully converted. Vipers had a number of strong runners who initially caused Sutton a lot of problems by making clean breaks and committing players to the tackle and ruck area. Sutton had to make 2 early changes following a couple of knocks, which threatened to disrupt the side. After a period of sustained pressure Vipers scored again from a forward drive in the corner. This try went unconverted, to take Vipers 12 points clear after about 15 minutes of the game. Sutton then started to get a foothold in the game and made several breaks to move towards the Vipers line. Repeated infringments from the home team meant that Sutton advanced steadily before King-Jerry Adu broke from a ruck on the 22 to score under the posts, which Henry Nevitt converted. The game was very tight and a little scrappy, with both teams getting team warnings from the referee. Half time score: Vipers RFC 12; Sutton Coldfield RFC 7.
In the second half the game continued to be very close, with both sides challenging strongly at the breakdown and restricting space for the opposition. Vipers scored near the posts from another drive and converted under the posts, before King-Jerry scored from a rolling maul from a line-out. Unfortunately, Henry Nevitt was unable to add the conversion. Henry was then sin-binned for an off-side offence, following the warning received by the team earlier and, while he was spending 6 minutes off the pitch, Vipers scored again to take the score to 24-14. With Henry reinstated and 4 minutes remaining, Sutton drove forward again and King-Jerry scored his hat-trick try. This was also converted by Henry Nevitt to take the score to 24-19 with minutes left to play. Sutton pushed for the win, but Vipers managed to repel them and break back up the pitch themselves, where they were awarded a penalty. This was successfully kicked with the last play of the game, to take the finals core to Vipers 27; Sutton 19.
An excellent game saw Sutton just come up short on this occasion. Mansfield visit the RSG next week, to give Sutton a chance to get back to winning ways against another new opponent.
