Sutton u14s started their first campaign in the Warwickshire Cup with an away fixture at Berkswell and Balsall Rugby Club, the first round game having been postponed to accommodate the Worcester Warriors festival last weekend. As a result of a couple of prior commitments, Sutton only had the 15 players required to put out a team and so played the whole game without any substitutions.
Sutton struggled to cope with the straight, hard running of the Berkswell side and went down by 42 points to 12. Sutton scored in each half, with tries by Matt Smith and Dan Birch. Positives from the match included the performance of the scrum, who were able to put their larger opponents under a lot of pressure.
The side were disappointed with their performance and will have an immediate opportunity to remedy it with the rescheduled first round game at Broadstreet next weekend.
