Sils v Sutton 19/11/17
1st half
Sutton started the game strong, defence was strong, the effort made in training with our scrums came to fruition, we stood our ground in defence and made some metres in attack. Even so, Sils were first to break away and score the first try.
Sutton did not let this stop them and fought back with some great rucking, passing and tackling which allowed James Mann to cross the line for Sutton first try.
Sutton second try came from some great will and determination from the whole team, they worked a pick and go move, which draining and hard for the lads involved but paid off with Sutton crossing the line supported by most of the forward pack. The try was awarded to Lewis Pratt but it may well have been Alexander Crouch that crossed the line it was unclear who had hands on the ball at the bottom of the pile.
Half time 2-1
2nd half
Both teams made changes at half time, with Sils bringing on a stronger side than the first half. Unfortunately Sutton were not prepared for Sils' strength and with missed tackles by Sutton this allowed Sils to score early in the second half. Sils' domination continued throughout the second half with them scoring 6 within the first 15 minutes. Sutton made some replacements but unfortunately the game was out of Sutton reach. A lack of determination and far too many missed tackles allowed Sils to dominate the second half scoring a total of 9 unanswered tries. Archie Pettigrew made an excellent run in the final few moments of the game, unwinding his lengthy legs and striding over tackles to get over the try line for a consolation try.
Final score Sils 10 Sutton 3.
