With Droitwich 'B' away to Bredon a tough morning was anticipated with both the 'A' team and the inexperienced development team playing one of North Mids better sides in this age group.

Droitwich kicked off, the ball going straight into touch; the resulting Sutton scrum was solid, scrum-half Harry Mitcham passed to fly-half George Creed from the back of the scrum. Quick ball through the backs saw Jenson Sharlott drive to the 5 metre line, the resulting ruck unfortunately ending in a home side scrum.
Sutton’s rush defence put pressure on the Droitwich back line with Sam Grimshaw tackling forcing a mistake, resulting in the first penalty of the game.
A sharp pass to Luke Reynolds saw him drive over from 20 yards to open the scoring for the second week in a row. Harry converted to add the extra two points 0-7. From the restart Sutton set about attacking the Droitwich gain line, unfortunately falling foul of some very dubious penalties which in turn put them on the back foot. a number of missed tackles helped to give Droitwich a way back into the game with a converted try of their own 7-7.
This only seemed to spur Sutton on, with both forwards and backs putting in some big hits and strong running following the restart, scrums to both sides dictated the next series of plays with both sets of forwards well matched. Finally the ball was passed out by Harry, his influence behind the pack beginning to show, to hard running Sam Grimshaw and quick hands by Cormac Neville saw the ball within 10 metres of the line, this time Louis Hanlan took charge, picked the ball and smashed through to go over for the try. Harry again converted to bring the score to 7-14.
Right from the restart Sutton went for a third. From a lineout good interplay helped to set up ruck after ruck until the pressure told and Droitwich gave away another penalty. Luke was again the focus of the resulting set move only to be unjustly penalised himself for handing off, the Droitwich penalty was the last play of the half.

Harry kicked off for the second half, Tyler Bryant on the charge grabbed the ball, setting it up for centre Cormac who offloaded to Reagan Cartwright who was unlucky to be penalised for a hand off. A Droitwich infringement at the following line out gave the ball back to Sutton, a backs move saw Harry put George Creed through who in turn set Sam on the charge to score Suttons third of the day, Harry stepped up to convert three from three, an excellent example of how to drop kick.
Sutton, now with the bit between their collective teeth began to dominate the play, Harry directing play like a orchestral conductor. Solid defensive play in the centre by Cormac spoilt the Droitwich attacks time and time again, helping to set up the platforms for his back line team mates to counter. Relentless waves of play again paid dividends when Droitwich were penalised for offside at the ruck. The resulting penalty saw Droitwich charge the greens to no avail Luke driving hard taking three with him and popping the ball for Louis to dive over from two yards, kick number four for Harry made the score 7-28 with still 10 minutes left.
“What do you feed them on in Sutton?” was the question from a Droitwich coach, who was very impressed with Sutton’s dominance. The reply should have been “raw meat and Guinness” but I thought it wise not to.
As we talked, Jenson picked the ball and jinked his was to an impressive solo effort to make it a complete performance by the diminutive winger with the heart of a lion. Again and again Sutton’s backs ran at the Droitwich defence, which was breached for the sixth time and a second for Sam, again Cormac was instrumental in the build-up, placing the ball between the posts for the extras. What was to be the final play of the game saw both backs and forwards invovled in a free running series of phases culminating in Luke offloading to George Creed who darted across the line in the corner for his first of the season and Sutton’s seventh, the final score finishing 7-45 to the visitors.
Speaking to parents after the match and at the Bonfire event, the general concensus is that the performance by the 'A' team was one of the best so far. A big well done to the lads not metioned who also played their part in this demolition of a good Droitwich outfit.
