The November frost melted away as the morning sun ignited Sutton 12's touch paper!

Moseley had the honour of being the visitors to the RSG for the first home game of the season; a series of successful away wins had put the U12’s in a fantastic frame of mind with confidence at a high.

Sutton ‘A’s intentions were made plain from the kick off with Tyler Bryant and Luke Reynolds chasing down Harry Mitcham’s kick off, causing Moseley to touch down behind their own line. Moseley’s defence was put under increasing pressure with Ben McElhanlon unfortunately knocking on behind the Moseley line. From the resulting scrum more pressure from Sutton saw Moseley kick the ball directly to Callum Aherne, who collected on the full and run the ball back for the first try of the game into the corner, Harry converted to add the extra two points.

The now familiar intensity and pace of the Sutton play began to take its toll on the visitors try number two being scored by Sam Grimshaw and converted by Harry after some good work by the forwards securing ball and recycling for the back line to drive forward. A well-rehearsed penalty found its way to Luke who charged cross field to drive over for try three, number four followed closely behind again for Luke, both tries being converted by Harry and George Pegg respectively.
Constant pressure exerted by Suttons play saw Moseley struggle to get a foot hold in the game, their frustration showed by their captain’s tip tackle on Harry bringing about a forced substitution for dangerous play. Three more tries, two converted, were scored to bring the half time score to 33-0 Louis Hanlan, Tyler Bryant and Reagan Cartwright the scorers with Sam converting both the sixth and seventh.

The second half started with Moseley kicking off and George Pegg returning with interest, setting up another attack, a more resolute Moseley came out for the second half, their defence a lot stronger. Again the Sutton lads got into their stride quickly after the first wave of attack had failed. Some great interplay between the forwards and three quarter line saw Harry Mitcham get his reward for some hard work behind the scrum and breakdown, George Pegg claiming another two points for the conversion. This opened the flood gates again, Sam charging up the right, passing to Callum Aherne who burst over the line for his second and the teams ninth, George Creed claiming the extras.
Try number ten followed some more intense pressure from the now rampaging Sutton, Luke took the ball on driving towards the line falling short by inches, support from his team mates resulted in Tyler picking and driving over from close in, Harry scoring his fourth conversion of the day. Important work by Jenson Sharlott on the wing and Cormac Neville through the centre and at the break down helped to make the days performance exceptional the final try being scored by Sam, Ben Mac converting to make the final score 75-0.

For the fourth game in a row every single player could have received Man of the Match but Luke Reynolds’ very accomplished performance at No.8 earned him the title for the first time this season.

A look at last seasons corresponding fixture played in March this year, shows how the team has improved. The score in March was 21-0 to Sutton
