Despite the wintry conditions the go ahead was given for the games this Sunday morning, and so we all met at the RSG for bacon butties and rugby.

After weeks of snow and rain, the ground was sodden but playable, taking a good stud. Market Bosworth were the visitors and warmly welcomed despite the poor conditions.
The whistle blew and the visitors kicked off, Sutton was straight into their stride driving forward on the front foot. Strong pack work and good back support kept the pressure on Bosworth until Louis Hanlan, as usual leading from the front, was unfortunately penalised for a knocked on as a result of a swing tackle, the resulting scrum was turned over and the home side was back on the march. Some good tight interplay by forwards and backs alike led to Luke Reynolds scoring the first try of the day after some positive running and a perfect off load by Jenson Sharlott, Harry Mitcham kicked the extras to make it 7-0 with no more than 2 minutes gone on the clock.
Constant pressure through powerful play by the forwards began to tell as Bosworth became encamped in their own half, a quick ball out of the ruck and fast hands through the No.10 position saw a typical long range effort by Sam Grimshaw, bursting through the visitors’ defensive line, Harry completed the score with another well taken conversion. From here on in, Sutton scored at will with some great team play and individual excellence; Jenson, Callum Aherne, Lewis Belton scoring with assists by Cormac (2) and Tyler Bryant and converted by Sam (2), and George Pegg, respectively. Another individual effort straight from a restart by Lewis was converted by Jenson. The half came to an end with Luke’s second try of the game who was duly assisted by Jenson for a virtual carbon copy of their first collaboration, making the half time score a resounding 35-0.
Watching on, one could see the confidence draining from the Bosworth side as the second half carried on much as the first had done. Sutton’s first try of the half was another fine example of how to set a platform by both scrum and ruck for the scrum half, good distribution and hard running by the whole back line provided the perfect opportunity for the second row pairing to show their worth with Lewis off loading to Luke to surge the over the touch line for his hat trick, converted by Hugh McMenamin, Luke’s fourth and Suttons ninth of the day was a result of some more combined hard driving by forwards and backs setting up a temporary camp on the Bosworth two metres, The ball was finally fed back to Harry who fired an exercet pass to the on rushing Luke who took the crowd of Bosworth defenders with him over the line, George Creed scoring the conversion.
Lewis claimed his hat trick when put in by his second row partner Luke, who duly went on to miss the conversion, Sam made it a double with another storming run George Pegg claiming the extra two points, The final try and the last action of the game came via a well deserved score by Cormac who along with Hugh, who put him through and Ben MacElhanlan who converted along with Tyler Bryant all worked tirelessly helping to present the others with their opportunities.
A massively convincing white wash in the mud 89-0 was a tremendous example of how to play rugby in such terrible conditions.
