A superb effort

The Land Rover Premiership Cup is now in its 10th year. On Sunday Sutton Coldfield U12’s competed in the Wasps section of what is a national competition at King Henry V111 playing fields in Coventry.
16 clubs were divided into 4 pools of 4, Sutton first of all played Nuneaton, winning by 2 – 1 Ruari and Reiss (c) scoring the tries. In their next game, they came up against Bury St Edmunds winning 4-0 Reiss (c) scoring again with Fred and newcomer Reiss (r) twice crossing the line. Abbey were the other team in the pool and Sutton triumphed again 2-1 Austin scoring both tries.
This meant that Sutton had won their pool and went into another league of all the pool winners. These were Worthing, Claverdon and Wallingford. As could be anticipated all were close games. In their first Sutton beat Claverdon 2-1 with Fred and Reiss (r) scoring. Wallingford were then beaten by the same score Elliot and Chris going over. At this time both Worthing and Sutton were undefeated and so their meeting was a virtual cup final. Courtesy of a great tackle near the tryline by Fred and a last gasp ankle tackle by Worthing when Austin was bursting through, left the score 0-0. Who had won the competition we all asked. Unfortunately for the Sutton team, Worthing had won one of their games 3 – 1 and so on countback they took the trophy by one try. However the Sutton team can take great pride in their efforts on the day.
