Imperious performances by Captain Harry Mitchum and second row Luke Reynolds helped to pave the way for what can only be described as the best performance Sutton ‘A’ have put together all season.

Hard hitting Louis was, as ever, at the forefront of the breakdown followed closely by Tyler, Luke, Hugh, and Ben, combinations of pick and drive and fast ball out to the backs left the home side chasing shadows. Cormac, George C, Jenson controlled the midfield with Callum and both wings Elliot and Dan joining in on a regular basis, seemingly cutting open the Hales’ defence at will. Several gut busting runs by Luke helped to set up fantastic positions from where Sutts burst over the line to give a well deserved half time 26-0 lead.

All but one of the eight tries (three for the hard working pack, three for the free running backs and two for the master controller Harry at Scrum half) scored were converted producing a final 54-7 score line. So good was the performance no-one really noticed the one lapse in concentration to allow the hosts to score a consolation try that they duly converted.

After ringing the changes the second game got under way with Sutton ‘B’ deciding they were not going to be out done by there team mates. Some very competent rugby form both pack and backs continued the good work laid down in the first game Tyler going over in the first half and Cormac converting to make it 7-7 at the break. New second row pairing of Matthew and Jack performed very well in positions not familiar to them, working hard in the set pieces and at the break down.

Callum continued his industrious work at fullback joining the line whenever the opportunity arose, and defending the limited attacks that got through the midfield pairing of George C and Kai.

Second half saw the reintroduction of Luke and Louis in the front row, Jonny came on for Dan, Harry for Cormac, Jenson for Callum, and Elliot for George C. As in the first game Luke and Louis led from the front setting up ball after ball for scrum half Jonny to spray the ball to half back partner Harry, who in turn set things up for the back line to run at the home defence.

A series of trademark runs by Luke resulted in him being dubiously pinged for supposedly handing off, despite these set backs Sutts took the lead through one storming run by Luke, taking out three of the opposition in the process.

However, the home side fought back valiantly to deliver a telling blow with only minutes of the game left and gain a very hard fought and deserved win, inflicting on Sutton ‘B’ only the third defeat of the season.

The sun definitely shone on the Sutton U11 squad today with everyone playing exceptionally well, and all bodes well for the rest of the season as Luke seems to have found the form that brought him to the attention of Mitch last season.
