On a very breezy Sunday the U11’s travelled to Market Harborough for their festival, which included teams from, Harborough, Oakham, Coalville, Market Bosworth, Rushden, and Towcester. There were two pools and to meet with the current age grade rugby requirements to play an equal number of games 1st place in pool A then played 1st in pool B, 2nd played 2nd etc.
We were second on in pool A and in a very close game beat Coalville 2-1 Owen and Elliott scoring our tries. In the very next game we were victorious over the hosts 3-1 with a hat trick of tries by Austin. Favourites at that time to head the pool we were denied in our final pool game against Oakham. Needing just a draw to head the group the score was 2-2 when Oakham intercepted a pass near their own try line and raced away to score just before the final whistle. Sam of the twins scored both tries for Sutton.
In our final game against Market Bosworth, we came up against the best opposition on the day. The Leicestershire side played with strength, pace and passing ability. After the disappointment of the previous game we did well to score three tries from Ruari, Austin and Sam, but unfortunately Bosworth scored 5.
My only disappointment on the day was that both our players and coaches should realise that these games are refereed by neutral volunteer officials. Arguing and back chatting inevitably leads to the referee giving 50/50 decisions against us. So please at our own festival in two weeks time do not repeat.
