Sutton Rugby U10s Prima Cup Review
A crisp and sunny Sunday morning saw our excited group of boys and girls travel to Tamworth to take part in the Prima Cup, with a chance to play at Leicester Tigers! We had 4 games to get through however….we were delivered with some interesting news on our arrival as we saw that our arch rivals, SIls, were in the other side of the draw – today was not to the day to test ourselves against them again.
It was great to see team members that were not playing in the tournament still arrive to cheer their teammates on, that’s team spirit. Well done Holly and Taran liam!!! The team played a fantastic set of games – winning all 4 - with all players showing great grit, determination and drive to win and play for each other.
Game 1 – Lichfield
A low scoring game, but a comfortable win for the Green Army at 2-0, with tries from Alex and Kyle.
We dominated the game with some great running from Ben, speed from Eddie, excellent tackling all round and really good pressing by the whole team to keep our opponents penned in and not letting them play.
We could have 5 more in the 1st half, but didn’t convert all of the chances created – the team need to take on the advice given by the coaches of “quick hands”!!
2nf half was a lot tighter, with a lot of the play in the middle of the field, but we were not really challenged.
Win number 1.
Game 2 – shipston
A more comfortable win at 6 – 0 to Sutton, with tries from Ben, Kyle, Alex, Alfie, Eddie & Sam. A real team performance!!
We more dominated this game, with excellent running, tackling, ripping and passing. Every team member played their part when on the field. We forced turnover after turnover through our play – whether by tackling into touch, ripping, rucking or just forcing errors through high pressure play.
The share of tries tells the story of a real team performance. Well done all!
Game 3 – Tamworth
Another comfortable win, 4 -1 to Sutton with Ben (2), Autumn and Eddie on the scoresheet.
Started off relatively tight, with plenty of tackling and turnovers in the middle of the field. We ended up taking the game by the scruff of the neck in the end with some great running and passing getting us to 2-0 at half time.
The final try of the game to take it to 4-1 in the second half was a great set of running and passing from Ben to Alfie to Ben to Eddie to score….training starting to pay off!
Game 4 – Nuneaton
The toughest and tightest game of the say, which we saw out at 1-0, with Ben on the scoresheet.
A 1st half full of runs, tackles and turnovers. The half was marked by a particularly rough tackle on our try scorer, which he bravely shrugged off and continued to play. To great effect too, as an excellent run down the right wing saw him race past the opposition and squeeze into the try area.
1-0 and result!
