After a heavy night of birthday celebrations for our very own Charlie Byrne, the girls take our league by storm!!

We haven't had the best look with our league tournaments of late, with us losing the first one of this season at home, and us being unable to attend the last one. However after a Saturday night of drinking, dancing and some big birthday celebrations, we faced our third tournament of the season on a windy Sunday afternoon. Whilst some of us have played in these tournaments before, some of our players were new to the team that day. So the task of winning was a little daunting.

We arrived at Redditch RFC a little late and were in a rush to get changed as we were up in the first round against Wellesbourne. The girls pushed hard without a proper warm up and as time went on the side grew more confident and stronger. By half time the girls knew what they were doing and had a pep talk amongst them. The second half saw new comer to the team Katie Gregory score the first try of the tournament for Sutton. With a final score of 3-1 to Wellesbourne, we were already doing better than we had in previous tournaments and we would've been happy with that.

Except the team weren't! We played a second tough match against Ross on Wye which was frustrating to both teams due to an inexperienced referee. It also saw Ross beat us on a 2-0 defeat. But spirits were still high in time for the third game against Cannock.

Cannock is always a great team to play as they started up around the same time as us. They also have the best characters and we always enjoy it! With lots of laughs Katie Gregory scored the first try of the game by making a great run up the wing and then continuing round to place the ball under the imaginary posts. She later continued to score a second try in the second half in much the same way. Cannock put up a great fight and were persistent and hard working, but they were no match for our girls, who won the game 2-0.

The final match to play was against Camp Hill who had left the tournament early giving us our second win of the day and league.

These great trys and high spirited games had left the girls ecstatic over their first two wins of the season. The team made up of Charlie, Pam, Katie, Molly, Mandi and Nicola were now up for their first placement in the league, together with all their hard work, effort and dedication, they placed Sutton Coldfield RFC Ladies at 7th in the league out of ten teams. A huge Congratulations and thank you to everyone that played and to those who turned up on the day willing to play at short notice.
