SCRFC Ladies secured their fourth win in a row on Sunday against Longton after a hard game.

Sutton Coldfield RFC Ladies Vs Longton Ladies – Away
Final Score 19-17.

It was a hard game for the girls this week as they faced Longton Ladies away. The match which was a memorial game in memory of a Longton Player kicked off at 2:15pm. It was windy and cold and it had been decided that the game would be played as tens match with 20minutes each way.
It took a couple of minutes for the girls to warm up. Whilst some were getting used to their new positions others were preparing themselves for some big hits. Longton were on the whole a bigger squad and weren’t afraid of putting the hard tackles in. Never the less the first try went to Sutton as Hooker Jessica Nally ran 20 meters after a break, avoiding tackles to rack up the first 5 points. Captain and Fly-Half Charlie Byrne then stepped up to convert giving the girls in green a 7-0 lead.

Longton however were quick to retaliate. They made an attempt for a try in the corner, however the referee didn’t see whether they had scored or if they’d been carried in to touch first, so no try was given. However straight from the scrum, Longton saw a gap and scored their first try towards the end of the first half, giving us a half time score of 7-5.
Both teams were getting restless now. The score was too close at half time, and both teams wanted badly to win. After Charlie’s restart kick failed to make 10m, Longton took the opportunity to go for the scrum, using the fact they were uncontested to their full advantage. The ball came straight out and was picked up by the Longton Scrum half who made another great break. Scoring another try almost immediately. The conversion went through the posts and the score was at 12-7 to Longton.
Charlie kicked the restart and the ball was caught and kicked straight back by Longton. The home team put on a heavy chase and there was a fight for the ball. Sutton however were prepared and kept possession, passing the ball to Murrielle Nguimpi who made 20metres, running through every tackle with a few cheeky hand offs on the way. Mumu then passed to Sutton Debut Sophie Jackson who made another 20 metre run to score her first try for the Green Army. Charlie stepped up to take the conversion, but sadly the wind was too much hassle and the points were missed, leaving the score at 12-12.
Longton kicked for the restart and another quick chase was putting the Sutton girls under pressure. They turned the ball over and scored another try after a penalty was given against Sutton for coming in at the side of the ruck. The conversion was missed giving Longton a 17-12 lead.
There was five minutes left and in true Green Army form, the Sutton Ladies weren’t about to give up. The home side caught the kick off the restart and sent it flying back. But` Sutton were prepared. They kept possession easily against a tiring opposition. The ball was quickly passed to Gabrielle Juneau who made a great break passing the ball to winger Sophie Jackson, who then scored her second try of the game underneath the posts. Captain Charlie Byrne took got the conversion to end the game on a 19-17 win to Sutton.
