Sutton Women Development XV 60 - Old Newtonians 7

Sutton Women's Development XV turned on the style to record a satisfying 60-7 win in Leicester this afternoon scoring 10 tries and 5 conversions in the process. As a development exercise there was a lot to take from the outing with game time being given to squad players and newbies as well as girls being tried in new positions and others given fresh leadership responsibilities.

Playing against an opposition that were competitive throughout, Charlie Byrne was first on the sore sheet, Emma Clueit carried of an electrifying run before popping the ball to Byrne in support who finished off the score. Con Livermore. Ella Friar soon scored Sutton's second linking up well with fullback Becca Rose Hood before outpacing the opposing winger to score in the scorner. After putting in all the hard work in open field Emma Clueit earnt her reward through a try of her own, the second row proved too strong for the opposition as she ploughed through the oncoming defence before reaching for the line. Con Livermore.

Kerrie Anne Melsom today playing in the centre's displayed some nifty footwork to score Sutton's fifth of the afternoon followed by scrum half Karen Adams who superbly opted to pick and go at the breakdown before battling through for the try to put Sutton 31-0 up at half time.

In the second half Tara Wheeldon wasted little time making her mark when introduced at the break as she stormed through a beleaguered home defence to open the 2nd half scoring after just 3 minutes. The hosts then scored a breakaway consolation try through Honor Danns which was due reward for all the effort they put in the whole afternoon. That would be as good as it got though for Old Newt’s as further tries for the visitors would follow from Charlie Byrne who fronted up superbly at loose head prop for the first ever time and more than held her own against the ‘guest’ opposition tight head who normally plies her trade in the League above the Visitors. The front row player added two more tries to complete her hat-trick.

Vicky Sullivan celebrating her birthday playing at number eight today made it a day to remember as she crashed over the line for a score of her own. Con Melsom Sutton's ability to develop young players was again proved by the performance of junior girls player Bella Timmins who made her first senior appearance in green and completed a superb team try after supporting Tara Wheeldon as she made a break in midfield before running through to score under the posts. Con Katie Gregory.
