King for a day.

Typically after a dismal summer, Saturday dawned bright, sunny and warm, to the delight of the backs and dismay of the forwards. Sutton Thirds welcomed Hinckley Thirds to the plush surroundings of the back pitches at Walmley Road. Hinckley presented themselves with a third team speciality-mature, gnarled forwards and youngish backs!! By contrast Sutton were fairly youthful in comparison.
After a fairly shapeless majority of the first half Sutton nodded off and in a flash Hinckley strode over to take a 5 point lead. However, Sutton struck back quickly with a 10 metre surge to and over the line by Jamie King. Minutes later a bullocking run by Gareth “Ninja” Roberts punched holes in the Hinckley defence with support from Duckworth who handed on to skipper, Mark Mc Evoy and then on to that man King again who powered over for his second, 14-5 for The Greens at half time.
A host of changes at half time including replacing Hagar, McEvoy and Roberts, about 65 stones worth out of the pack, meant a predictable loss of shape and greater domination by the larger Hinckley pack. Hinckley scored next, running a penalty past the Sutton defence which had nodded off again!!!!
However, the man of the moment Jamie King rampaged through and over the Hinckley would be tacklers to touch down under the sticks. Still Hinckley, to their credit on a hot afternoon, came back to restore a narrow lead with about 15 minutes left. Sutton finally killed off the game with 2 late tries from Mike Clarke and Daniel Shaw. All in all a satisfactory run out for the Greens and a good result against a competitive Hinckley team in a game played in a good spirit. Good luck to Hinckley for the season.
