Sutton Survive DK Surge!

On a bleak, cold and wet afternoon in the Black Country Sutton returned home with 4 league points, just, courtesy of a dominant first half performance, scoring 3 tries and surviving a second half comeback from Dudley Kingswinsford, that had Sutton hanging on to claim the spoils by 29 points to 24.
Sutton virtually camped in the DK half for the first 40 minutes but only had 3 tries to show for their dominance as Lewis Snowdon, Ben Knockter, after good work by himself and Josh Pugh hacking the ball half the length of the pitch and Chris Duckworth who danced through the defence for a 21-5 lead as DK managed a try from their 2 incursions into the away team’s 22 or should I say more like 15!!! Good performances by Dave Sandford and Ian Wilson who both made lots of ground but their efforts were often in vain as the ball was lost in the ruck or was knocked on!
The second half started the same way as Sutton camped in the DK half for 15 minutes but again only had one score to show for their endeavour as Callum Heaney registered in the corner, Duckworth hitting the post with the tricky conversion.
That should have been game over but Sutton decided the game was won and stopped tackling DK’s big runners and they scored a rapid 12 points to make the score 26-17 with plenty of time left. A Duckworth penalty stretched the score out to 29-17 but the home team were still not done as another soft try was conceded under the sticks and it was 29-24 with not long remaining. Sutton survived to record their third league win in succession and move up to the top half of the table.
