Repot from Emma Ord
Sutton Coldfield Ladies travelled to West Bridgford RFC on Sunday 10th October seeking a first win at Championship level.
After a nervy start where Sutton dominated territory, the first try eventually came against a stoic West Bridgeford defence as Jada Bailey opportunistically picked and went wide, outflanking the defence. The second try came from Charlie Byrne, who cut back against the defence to score. The third try came shortly after, with smart tactical play giving Sutton prime territory, Charlie Byrne again crossing. West Bridgford hit back just before half time with a well worked set play moving the ball wide to make the score 17-5 at half time.
The second half was a repeat performance; a nervy start followed by clever kicking and oppressive defence. The fourth try came from a West Bridgford scrum on their own line - Sutton pressure forcing a hasty pick up and turnover penalty, which captain Katie Gregory took quickly to score under the posts. Another 5m scrum (this time Sutton's put in) gave Jada Bailey the platform to pick from the base and score her second - Sutton's fifth. The final Sutton try came from well worked phase play, where prop Vicky Sullivan ran a clever line through the defence to run it in from nearly 30m. Again, West Bridgford were intent on having the final say, and a fantastic individual score from their winger saw her beat four defenders as she weaved her way from half way to try line.
Alison Livermore kicked three conversions, making the final score 36-12 to Sutton Coldfield.
On 24th October, Sutton welcome Bletchley to the Roger Smoldon ground for the first time, hoping for a first home win of the season.
